You can find us at Chitra GIDC, right across from the Nil-Kamal way bridge. It’s an industrial area, so there’s always the sound of machinery and trucks in the background. We do mechanical work, mostly repairs and fixing parts that people bring in when they break. The shop is full of metal scraps, oil stains, and heavy tools that have been around for years. Our hands are usually black with grease by lunchtime. It’s not the cleanest job, but we enjoy figuring out how to fix something that’s broken. We have a few benches where we work on different components. The weigh bridge nearby means there are always big lorries stopping and starting, which adds to the general noise. We don't have a lot of space for customers to sit, just a couple of old chairs in the corner that are a bit wobbly. It gets very hot inside during the summer because of the metal roof overhead. We just keep the fans running and drink a lot of water to stay cool. We’ve been in this GIDC block for a good while now. Most of our regulars are workers from the other factories nearby. They drop off stuff and we get to it when we can. Sometimes a job takes much longer than expected if a part is stubborn or rusted. We don't make any big promises, we just do the work and try to get the machines running again. It’s a gritty, noisy life but it’s what we know.
