We are over at 369/4/A-2 in the Chitra Gidc area. If you come by, you’ll see that Achal Furniture is basically a workshop full of wood, saws, and the smell of varnish. It’s a busy place and we usually have sawdust on our clothes by ten in the morning. We’ve been in Chitra for a good while and it’s the kind of place where you know all the other workshop owners nearby. We don't have a fancy showroom with bright lights and air conditioning. Our furniture sits right there on the floor where it was made. We spend a lot of time measuring things out and making sure the joints fit right. It’s physical work and your back definitely feels it by the end of the day. Sometimes a customer comes in with a sketch on a piece of paper and we have to figure out how to make it work. We use simple tools mostly. The roof is corrugated metal, so when it rains it gets really loud inside and we have to shout to hear each other. But it’s a good way to work. We like seeing a pile of wood turn into a table or a cupboard. It’s not a fast process and we don't try to make it one. We just do the work as it comes and try to stay on top of the orders that are currently on the board. We are just local people making things that last.
