Sathiya Departmental Store

You can find us at number 23 on Kollegal Road in the town of Anthiyur. Being on a main road means we get a lot of travelers passing through as well as the locals who live just a few streets away. We call ourselves a departmental store, which basically means we try to stock a bit of everything so people don’t have to make multiple stops. We have stuff for the kitchen, some toiletries, and snacks for the kids. The shop can get a little cramped because we keep adding new items whenever people ask for them. We use metal racks that are bolted to the walls to save space. It is a bit of a squeeze when more than four or five people are inside at the same time, but everyone is usually patient. The ceiling fans keep the air moving, which is nice when it gets humid outside. We don’t have a big staff, just a couple of us who know where every single item is hidden on the shelves. Anthiyur is a nice place to work, and being on Kollegal Road gives us a good view of what’s happening in town. We keep things simple and honest here. There are no fancy scanners or high-tech gadgets, just us and the customers and the items on the shelves. It’s a very traditional way of doing things, and it works for us. We try to stay open late enough for people coming back from their work.
