Our base is at 724 Muniyappampalayam Pirivu Road in Vembathi. We do road construction, so we spend most of our time out in the heat. This address is where we keep the trucks and the heavy equipment when they aren't being used on a job. It’s a big yard with a small office attached to it. Building roads is hard work. It’s about gravel, tar, and making things level. We don't have a lot of time for sitting around. When we are at the office, it’s usually to fix a machine or talk about the next stretch of road we have to pave. Vembathi is a quiet area until we start up the engines in the morning. We know the local roads because we’ve probably worked on half of them at some point. We don't have a marketing guy or a website that looks pretty. We just get calls from people who need a road built or repaired. We show up with the crew and get to it. Sometimes the weather stops us, especially during the heavy rains. Then we just wait it out at the yard on Pirivu Road. It’s a simple life. We work hard, we get dusty, and we go home. That is how road work goes. We've been doing this for years and we know the tools of the trade. The yard is usually full of piles of stone and equipment, but that's how we like it.
