We’re out at 152/1 Kongu Avenue in the Rayanoor area. It’s near Thoranakkalpatti Post. The road out here is long and has a lot of trucks moving back and forth. Our place is basically a big garage filled with crates of glass bottles. You can hear them clinking against each other whenever we move a stack. It’s a lot of physical work, loading the crates onto the back of the small tempo we use for deliveries. My back usually aches by the time we close up. The office part is just a tiny table with a calculator and a bunch of dusty logbooks. We don't have air conditioning, so we just leave the big front doors open to catch whatever breeze comes through Kongu Avenue. Sometimes a stray dog will come in and nap on the cool floor in the shade. We don't mind as long as they stay out of the way. The walls are a bit stained from years of work, and the paint is peeling near the ceiling. It’s not a place for customers to come and hang out; it's more of a hub for getting drinks out to the local shops in the villages. We start early, usually before the sun is fully up, to beat the worst of the heat. By the time the mail comes to the Thoranakkalpatti Post, we’ve usually finished the first round of deliveries. It’s just hard, honest work for the few of us here. We keep a spare tire in the corner.
