Alfa Tools Pvt. Ltd. is based over at Plot No. 179. It’s a simple building that we’ve called home for a long time. There isn't much to say about the architecture—it’s just four walls and a roof that keeps the rain off our machines. We make tools, and that’s pretty much the whole story. The floor is covered in metal shavings most days, no matter how much we sweep. We have a small group of workers who have been here forever. We know each other’s families and what’s going on in the neighborhood. It’s a small-scale operation, which is how we like it. We don't have a fancy board of directors or meetings that last for hours. We just decide what needs to be done and then we do it. Plot No. 179 isn't hard to find if you’re in the area, but we don't have any bright neon signs or anything like that. We rely on the fact that people know where we are and what we produce. Sometimes the machines act up and we have to spend the whole day fixing them instead of making tools, which is frustrating but part of the deal. We drink a lot of tea and try to keep things moving. We aren't trying to change the world or anything. We just want to make good tools and get home to our families at a decent hour. It's a plain life.
