Chaudhari Bakers

You can find us right near Lohagarh Fort. If you’re visiting the fort, the smell of our ovens might lead you straight to us. We’ve been Chaudhari Bakers for quite a while now. The mornings start very early for us, usually while it’s still dark outside. We have to get the dough ready and the ovens heated up before the sun even starts to peek over the fort walls. There is usually flour on our aprons and on the floor by mid-morning. It’s a busy little shop, especially when the tourists start arriving to see the historical sites nearby. We don’t have a lot of fancy equipment; it’s mostly just old-fashioned baking and a lot of manual labor. The heat from the ovens keeps the place warm, which is nice in the winter but a bit much during the summer months. We sell a lot of bread and local treats to the people who live around here. They know us by name, and we know what they usually order. It’s a simple life, but it keeps us busy from dawn until we close up in the evening. Sometimes the fort area gets really crowded, and the street outside our door is full of people. We just keep baking and serving whoever walks in. It’s a local tradition for many families to stop by on their way home. Every day we try to make sure the shelves are full for the morning.
