Vivekanand Rugnalay

Being at Vivekanand Rugnalay in Neharu WardLakhani means we see a lot of people every single day. Lakhani is a place where everyone kind of knows each other, or at least they know someone who knows you. The hospital sits right in Neharu Ward and it is always a bit noisy outside with the traffic and the people walking to the market. Inside, we try to keep things a bit more organized. The walls are painted a plain off-white and we have rows of metal chairs for people to sit while they wait to see the doctor. It gets very hot in the afternoons here so we keep the windows open to catch any breeze that comes through. We are not a big fancy medical center with shiny floors and glass doors. We are just a local rugnalay. I spend a lot of time talking to the families who come in because they are often worried. We have a small staff and we all do a bit of everything, from cleaning to helping with the paperwork. The paperwork is mostly kept in big metal cabinets that squeak when you open them. We have been in Neharu Ward for a long time and the building shows its age in some places, but it works for what we need. We just keep showing up and doing the work that needs to be done for the folks here.
