Living and working in the Tetultalla Railway Colony in Dhanbad is a specific kind of life. Our spot is at Quarter Number 419/2/9. It’s right in the heart of the colony where most of the railway workers stay. Dhanbad is known for the coal and the trains, and you can really feel that here. The air usually has a bit of grit in it, and you can hear the engines shunting in the distance at all hours of the night. This isn't a fancy corporate headquarters. It’s a functional space where we handle local railway matters. The quarters are old, built with thick walls that stay somewhat cool, but they’ve seen better days. We spend a lot of time talking to the neighbors because everyone here works for the same organization. It’s like a small village inside the city. When something needs fixing on the tracks or in the yards, the word usually starts here. We keep track of the shifts and the maintenance schedules on a big chalkboard and a few old computers. It’s a bit cluttered with manuals and spare parts sometimes. Life moves at the pace of the trains. We aren't trying to impress anyone; we’re just here to make sure the wheels keep turning through Jharkhand. It’s basic, hard work, and we’re used to the long hours and the soot on the windows.
