For this part of G D India Pvt Ltd, we are located out in Dhanbad, Jharkhand. The office is at the Tisco Malkera Colliery New Colony. We use the quarters numbered CB/3 and 4. It’s a very different environment compared to a city office. Being in a colliery area means there is a lot of dust and industry all around us. The post is Malkera and the pin code is 828304. We set up here so we could be right where the work is happening. The quarters are basically residential houses that we have turned into our workspace. It’s a bit tight and we’ve had to be creative with how we store everything. Life in a mining colony has its own rhythm. The power might flick off or the water might be slow, but we just deal with it as it comes. It’s a rugged place and we aren't here to look pretty. Our desks are filled with maps and project papers. People from the colliery often drop by to talk. We are part of the local scene here in Dhanbad. There are no polished marketing materials to show off. We just show up every day and do what needs to be done in the colony. It’s a hardworking place and we fit right in with the rest of the workers here. It gets very dark at night, but we've got our lamps and we keep at it until the job is done.
