Shah & Company

Shah & Company has its main yard in Bhadrak, right near the Bypass Road. Being near the bypass makes it much easier for the big lorries to pull in and out without getting stuck in the smaller town streets. We’ve been operating out of this spot for a long time. It started as a small family thing and it still feels that way most days when we are all working together. We handle all sorts of building supplies but bricks are the main thing we deal with. The ground here is always a bit uneven and there’s usually a layer of sand or grit over everything in the office. We spend our days answering the phone and checking on the stock levels in the back. If someone needs a delivery, we have to coordinate with the drivers, which can be a real headache when the traffic on the bypass is bad. We don’t do much advertising because most people just know we’re here by the road. We’ve seen the area change a lot over the years, with more buildings going up every month. We just keep doing what we’ve always done. Sometimes the rain slows us down and we have to cover everything up with plastic sheets to keep things dry. It’s just us and a few workers trying to make a living and providing what the local builders ask for. We aren't fancy people, we just know our business and try to stay organized enough to keep things moving.
