We are located at Khanabari, which is near Andhaipally in the Bhadrak district of Orissa. It’s a bit out of the way, which suits us fine. The office is a modest setup in a building that has seen better days, but it serves our purpose. We have a few desks and a lot of filing cabinets that are starting to rust a little at the bottom because of the humidity. Orissa gets a lot of rain, and during those months, we just listen to the water hitting the roof while we work on the budgets. The commute for some of us involves a bit of travel on narrow roads, so we usually start the day a bit later than people in the city. We have a small kettle for tea and some biscuits kept in a tin. It is a very quiet atmosphere most of the time, except when a contractor comes in to complain about something. We try to keep the paperwork organized, but it has a way of piling up on the desks. There isn’t any air conditioning, just a couple of ceiling fans that creak a bit. We are just a small team working on the local development side of things. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s what we know how to do, and we just keep at it day by day. We mostly focus on getting the measurements right and keeping the suppliers on schedule.
