Shree Hanuman Rice Mill

We operate this rice mill out in the Chandbali area. It is a pretty noisy place once the machines get running all day long, especially when it is harvest season and everyone is bringing in their crops. We take the raw paddy from the local farmers and process it down into the rice people eat. There is always a lot of dust in the air and that strong smell of rice husks, but that is just part of the daily grind for us. We have had these machines for a long time, and they require a lot of grease and constant fixing to keep them running smooth. Farmers bring their loads on tractors or old carts, and we get straight to work. It is hard physical labor, moving the heavy sacks around and checking that the quality is where it should be. We do not have any fancy corporate offices, just a small wooden cabin where we keep our books and take the payments. The weather affects our work a lot; if it rains too much, things have to slow down quite a bit. We have seen many seasons change from this same spot. It involves a lot of waiting for the right moisture levels in the grain and then working as fast as we can when the sun is out. Most of the men working here come from the nearby villages. We know the local land and the people who farm it well. It is not a glamorous business, but it stays busy.
