Shapoorji Pallonji & Company Ltd.

Out in Rourkela, we are set up in the Civil Township area at D 9. It’s a nice part of Orissa, relatively planned out compared to other places. Our office for Shapoorji Pallonji & Company Ltd is a single-story structure with plenty of room for all our files. We have been here for a long time, and the building shows its age a little, but it’s sturdy. The weather here can be really tough, especially in the summer, so we have heavy curtains to keep the sun out. Most of our work involves coordinating with the steel plant projects or other infrastructure around the city. We have a small yard where some of the equipment is kept temporarily. Inside, the fans hum all day long. We don't have a lot of hierarchy; the site engineers and the office clerks sit together and eat lunch at the same big table. We talk about local news, cricket, and then get back to the project schedules. It’s a practical way to run things. People in the Civil Township know us as the place where the engineers work. We keep our paperwork in order, but the office definitely has a lived-in feel with half-empty tea cups and old calendars. It’s not a showroom, it’s a working office where we solve problems every day. We like the quiet of this neighborhood and the way the trees shade the street outside.
