H. L. Carpet & Handicrafts

H. L. Carpet & Handicrafts is tucked away in Daribpur, over in the Bhagwanpur Kanehri area. It’s a bit of a drive to get here, but it’s a quiet place where we can focus on our work. We make carpets and various handcrafted items. You can see looms set up around the workspace and there's always heaps of wool and thread in different colors. It’s not a factory line; things are mostly done by hand, so it takes time. We don’t rush because that’s how mistakes happen. Some of the patterns we use have been around for generations. We’ve got a group of local people who are really skilled at what they do. The workshop is pretty open and airy, which helps when it gets hot in the summer. We don't have a big storefront with lights. If you come by, you’ll just see us working on whatever is on the looms that day. It's a lot of sitting and careful work with your fingers. Sometimes we have visitors who want to see how the carpets are made, and we don't mind showing them around. We sell mostly to people who know about us already or through small local dealers. We aren't trying to be famous or anything, we just want to keep the tradition going and make things that look decent and last a long time. It’s a slow pace of life here, and we like it that way.
