If you drive down Daropur Road, you’ll eventually find us. Gulmohur Carpets is set back a little from the main path. The air inside always smells like wool and a bit of damp earth, which is just part of working with these materials. We have these large stacks of carpets piled high, and moving them takes two or three people if they are the heavy ones. The lighting isn't the best, so we use some portable lamps when we need to check the patterns closely. It’s a quiet place for the most part, except when the delivery truck is backing in and everyone has to clear the way. Most of us here have been doing this for years, so we know which pile has what without looking at the tags too closely. We don't have a fancy showroom with spotlights. It’s more like a warehouse where we keep the stock. Sometimes people wander in thinking it's a shop, and we have to explain how we operate. The floor is mostly stone and gets cold in the winter. We have an old kettle in the back for making tea, which we do often. It's steady work, and there’s always a lot of sweeping to do because of the fibers that come off the rugs. We just stay focused on the orders coming in and making sure the right bales go out on time. The owner usually checks the stacks before we lock up.
