Aider & Aimer Kaleen Llp is located at 134 Nai Bazar in Bhadohi. If you know Bhadohi, you know it’s all about carpets, or kaleen as we call them. That’s exactly what we do. Our place in Nai Bazar is right in the middle of the action. It’s an old area and the streets can be narrow, but this is where the heart of the carpet trade is. We work with weavers and handle the finishing of the rugs. The smell of wool and dye is always in the air here. It’s a messy business sometimes. Dust from the yarn gets everywhere. We have stacks of carpets piled high in our warehouse. Some are big, some are small, with all sorts of patterns. We don't have a fancy showroom with bright lights. Usually, we just roll them out on the floor to show people. It’s a very hands-on job. You have to feel the pile and check the knots. We’ve been part of this community for a while. My grandfather used to say that Bhadohi has the best water for washing wool, though I don't know if that's still true today. We just stick to the methods we know. It's a slow process, making a good kaleen. You can't rush it or the pattern goes wrong. We spend a lot of time just waiting for things to be ready. It’s a patient kind of business. We just take it as it comes. It’s a traditional trade in a busy town.
