M.K. Engineering Works

M.K. Engineering Works is tucked away at Plot No. 29 in the Kalpatru Industrial Estate. If you are coming down Kolshet Road, you have to look for the Dhokali Naka turn. It is a bit of a tight squeeze with all the traffic and the small shops nearby, but we have managed to stay here for a long time. The workshop is usually filled with the sound of grinding metal or the hum of the lathe machines. It’s a small operation, really. Just a handful of us who know the machines inside out. No fancy air conditioning exists in the back, so the big metal doors stay open to catch a breeze. The floor is always covered in metal shavings, no matter how many times we sweep it up. Sometimes customers come in with sketches on scraps of paper, and we sit down and figure out how to make it work. Hands-on stuff is what we do. Most of the day is spent with tools in hand. When the tea guy comes around twice a day, we finally take our only real breaks. It is a humble setup, but the jobs get done. The neighborhood has grown around us with more traffic than before. Even so, the workshop feels like a constant. We aren't looking to be the biggest shop in Thane, just a local place that stays busy with the work we have.
