Our shop is number 456 in the Lal Bazar area. If you’ve ever been to Lal Bazar, you know it’s a maze of narrow streets and lots of people. We’ve had this spot for a good while. It’s a small space, and we try to fit as much as we can onto the shelves. We sell different kinds of items that people might need for their homes or for small repairs. We don't have a specialty, really. It’s just a mix of things. The shop is quite narrow, so if there are more than three customers, it feels very full. I spend a lot of my time climbing up and down a wooden ladder to get things from the top. The fan we have doesn't do much when it’s really hot outside, but we stay anyway. We don't have any corporate rules or fancy uniforms. We just wear our regular clothes and talk to people as they come in. Most of our day is spent chatting with the neighbors or the other shopkeepers in the market. It’s a loud place with all the horns and people shouting, but you get used to it. We open up early and close when the market starts to quiet down. It’s just a basic local business. We don't try to be anything we aren't. We just provide what we have to the people who stop by.
