Our shop, Vijay Neon Sign, is tucked away in Seshadripuram. If you know where the Nataraj Theatre is, we are basically right behind it on RK Street. It’s the second cross in the layout. We spend most of our days bending glass tubes and messing around with gas and wires to get the neon just right. It’s a bit of an old-school trade, I guess. Not many people do it the manual way anymore, but that’s how we learned. The workshop is usually full of bright lights and some half-finished signs leaning against the walls. It can get a bit hot when we are working the glass with the torches. We’ve been at this location for a good while. Seshadripuram is a nice area, even if the traffic on the main road gets a bit much during the rush hours. Being behind the theatre means it’s a little quieter for us to focus on the delicate parts of the job. We do signs for all sorts of people, some small shop owners and some bigger places. It’s just me and a couple of guys working here. We don't have a fancy reception desk or anything. You just walk in and talk to whoever is holding a pair of pliers. We try to keep things simple. If a sign flickers or needs a new transformer, we just fix it. That is pretty much our daily life here on RK Street.
