Vasant Emporium

You can find us at number 20 in Doddakammanahalli. We are right next to the Kerala Bhavan. Vasant Emporium is just a local shop where we keep a bit of everything. It’s not like those big malls you see in the center of Bangalore. We have shelves filled with household items, clothes, and some local goods. It gets a bit cluttered sometimes because we try to fit a lot in a small space. I spend my day mostly behind the counter or restocking the shelves when things get low. People from the neighborhood drop by for their daily needs. Sometimes they stay for a chat, which is nice. The traffic on the road outside can be quite loud, but inside it’s usually just the sound of the fan and the radio playing in the corner. We don’t have a big team of staff. It’s mostly family running the place. We have to keep track of what’s selling and what’s just sitting there taking up space. Ordering new stock takes a lot of time because we have to talk to different vendors and negotiate prices. Sometimes the stuff we want isn't available, so we find something else that works for the regulars. It is just a simple way of making a living for us. We’ve been here for a while and the people around here know our faces. We don't try to be anything special or modern. We just open the shop every morning and wait for the first customer to walk through the door.
