V V Sharma & Co has been operating out of Basavanagudi for a long time. Our address is 192 Gheekanta Road, which is a busy area with a lot of history. The office itself feels like it belongs to an older version of Bangalore. We have high ceilings and heavy wooden doors that have seen better days. It’s a place where we do a lot of traditional work, mostly involving ledgers and a lot of writing. The street outside is always noisy with scooters and people walking to the local markets. Sometimes the electricity goes out for an hour or two, so we just sit and talk or work by the windows. We don't have a modern lobby or a receptionist; you just walk in and find someone at a desk. It’s a bit cramped inside because we have so many old files stacked up everywhere. We’ve thought about moving to a newer building, but Basavanagudi is home. Everyone knows the landmarks around here. The tea man comes by twice a day and we usually take a break then. It’s not the fastest-paced office, but we get the work done eventually. Most of the people who come here are old clients who have been coming for years. We just keep doing things the way we’ve always done them. It’s a bit dusty and the fans creak, but it’s our space and we are used to it.
