If you’re driving through JP Nagar 3rd Phase, you might miss our turnoff. V A Venkatram & Company is tucked away at 37/A on 12th A Cross, near the 6th Main. It’s a quiet enough street, which is nice when you’re trying to concentrate on complicated paperwork. We’ve been working out of this space for years. The building is older, and the walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but it feels like home to us. Inside, there’s always a faint smell of old paper and ink. We handle a lot of the boring stuff that people hate doing themselves, like filing returns and checking through accounts. It’s steady work. We don’t have a receptionist in a fancy uniform; usually, whoever is closest to the door just looks up and says hello. Sometimes we have to move stacks of books just to find a place for a client to sit. It’s not messy, exactly, just busy. We’ve seen JP Nagar grow into what it is today, with all the new cafes and apartments popping up nearby. We’ve stayed pretty much the same, though. We use the same old wooden desks we started with. We don’t spend money on advertising because we’re usually busy enough with the people who already know where we are. It’s just a local office doing what needs to be done. Our aim is just to keep the books balanced and our neighbors happy.
