The Equity School

We've been over here at Plot No. 536 in Nagendra Block for a while now. It's a busy corner of Srinagar, especially during the morning drop-off times on 2nd Main. People usually find us easily because of the big gate. We have a small team of teachers who've been around for years. Most of us live nearby, so we see the parents at the grocery store or the park. The school building isn't fancy or anything, but it works for what we do. We spend a lot of time just keeping things organized. Classes start early, and by ten, you can hear the kids reciting things from the street. It gets a bit loud, but that’s just how it is. We have a small yard where the younger ones play. Sometimes the traffic on the main road makes it hard to hear, but we manage. We don’t have any big corporate office or anything like that. It’s just us and the students. A few of the desks are getting old, but they’re sturdy enough. We keep the place clean, or at least we try to with so many feet coming through. It feels like a second home for most of the staff. We just show up every day and get to work. There isn’t much more to it than that. We focus on the books and making sure everyone stays safe until their parents come back at the end of the day. It is a simple place for learning and we try to do right by the kids.
