Textiles Committee

The lab is located in the FKCCI WTC building on KG Road, which is a fairly central spot in Bangalore. Being part of the Textiles Committee means there is always something to be tested or looked at. It’s a Junior Qao setup, so we focus on the technical bits of the fabric that come in. The building is quite large and can be a bit confusing if you aren’t used to it, but our section is dedicated to the lab work. There’s a lot of sitting at benches and using the equipment to check for quality. It’s not the most exciting work for everyone, but it’s what we do. We have containers of samples and various tools scattered around the workstations. The air in the lab always has a certain smell of new cloth and sometimes a bit of dust. Outside, the Bangalore traffic is constant, but inside it stays pretty quiet so we can concentrate on the testing. We spend a lot of time writing down results and making sure everything matches the standards. It’s a lot of repetitive movement, checking one piece of cloth after another. The desks are usually piled high with folders and notes from the week's tests. We just keep our heads down and get through the pile. It’s a very functional space without any unnecessary frills, just a workplace for people who deal with the specifics of textiles every day and try to keep things moving.
