We’ve got a shop called Suraj Arts over on Hospital Road. It’s at Number 100, which is pretty close to Menaka Talkies. You can usually hear the sounds from the cinema or the hospital traffic while we’re working. We do art stuff, mostly painting signs and doing bits of creative work for local businesses. It’s a small room and it usually smells like paint and thinners. We have brushes soaking in jars all over the place. We aren't a big agency with designers in suits. It’s just a couple of guys who are good with their hands and a paintbrush. We’ve been here for years, and the walls are covered in old sketches and paint splashes. Sometimes we work out on the sidewalk if the piece is too big to fit through the door. It’s not a perfect setup, but it’s ours. We don’t have a website or anything like that. People just know we are near the talkies and they come by when they need a banner or a hand-painted board. We take things as they come. Some days are slow and we just sit and drink tea, and other days we are painting until late at night. It’s a simple life, and we like being part of the noise and bustle on Hospital Road. We don't need much more than a good light and some fresh paint to get through the day.
