If you walk down toward Aniket Society, you'll find us at number 116. It is a bit of a tight spot because tires take up so much room. We have stacks of them reaching the ceiling and sometimes they spill out onto the pavement. Lalbagh West is a busy area so there is always someone pulling in with a nail in their wheel. We spend most of our time bent over, pulling out debris or checking air pressure. It’s dusty work and our clothes are always stained with black rubber marks. We don’t really have a waiting room or anything like that. People just stand around and chat while we change their tires. You get to hear all the local news that way. My hands are usually too dirty to check a phone so we just talk. Some days are slower than others but usually, the monsoon season keeps us moving. Potholes are everywhere and they do a number on wheels. We have been in this spot for a long time now. People know us by name and we know their cars. It’s not about being the biggest shop in town. We just want to make sure the tires are safe before you drive back onto the main road. The smell of new rubber is something you never quite get used to, but it means we’re working. We keep things moving as best as we can every day.
