Sri Kalikamba Film Institute

We have a small place on Race Course Road No. 4 in New Thippasandra. It is not some big, fancy film studio like you see on TV. It is just a few rooms where we teach people about acting and how to work with cameras. There are usually scripts and notes lying around on the desks, and maybe a few lights tucked in the corner. Most of the students who come here are young people from Bangalore who have big dreams about being in the movies. I spend my time talking to them about the basics of the craft and trying to organize the different classes we run. The building itself is quite plain, and we don't have a lot of expensive decorations. We just focus on the practical side of things, like how to stand in front of a lens or how to read a scene. Sometimes the neighbors come by to see what we are doing if they hear us practicing. It gets a bit hectic when we are trying to finish a project, and the rooms can feel a bit small then. I handle the registrations and the day-to-day chores myself. It is a lot of work to keep things running, but it is interesting to meet so many creative people. We just take it day by day here, trying to share what we know about filmmaking without any big fuss.
