This spot is out in Kavadi village, which is part of the Udupi district. It’s the office for Sobha Developers Ltd here, run by Aukku Kulal’s son. Being in a village means things move a bit slower than in the city, but we still have plenty to do. The post office is nearby, which is handy. We focus on the construction work around this part of Karnataka. It’s not a fancy building. Just a place to keep the tools and the paperwork organized. We spend a lot of time out at the actual sites, so the office is often empty during the middle of the day. When we are here, we’re usually just sorting out the wages or talking to the suppliers. The Udupi weather can be tough, especially the heat, but we’re used to it by now. We don't use big words to describe what we do. We just build houses and other structures. It’s practical work for practical people. If you come by, you might find us drinking coffee and talking about the next project. We know the people in Kavadi well. It’s a small place, so word gets around. We just try to do a decent job and stay out of trouble. It’s a simple life, really. No corporate ladder to climb, just walls to build. Sometimes the internet is slow, and we have to wait to send emails, but we manage. It’s a different pace of life than in the big cities.
