We are over at 113/1 in A. Narayanapura, right here in Bangalore. This is the base for Site Supervisor & Marketing Devi Waterproofing Co. Our main thing is making sure buildings stay dry, which is a big deal when the monsoon hits Karnataka. Supervision and waterproofing go hand in hand because if you don't watch the guys closely, they might miss a corner or a crack. I spend my time crawling around on roofs or checking basement walls for dampness. It’s messy work and involves a lot of sticky chemicals and heavy tarps. Bangalore is a big place, but we mostly stay around this side of town where we know the local buildings best. I don't have some big mission statement or anything. I just want to make sure that when it rains, the water stays outside. I supervise the crew and sometimes I’m the one doing the marketing, which just means talking to homeowners and explaining why their roof is leaking. It’s a practical business run by people who aren't afraid to get their hands dirty. We don't have a polished office; we have a storage space with buckets and brushes. My job is to be there on-site to ensure the layers are thick enough and the seal is tight. It’s simple, necessary work that keeps the houses in our neighborhood in decent shape throughout the year.
