Up here in Bhimanagada, things move at their own pace. Our office for Simplex Infrastructures Ltd. is at Post Bhimanagada in the Hunagund taluk. We are part of the Bagalkot district in Karnataka, even though the name says Bangalore. It is a bit of a drive to the big city from here. We operate out of Appaji T. Bangarachikki’s place. It’s a local spot that everyone in the village knows. The work involves a lot of looking at land and talking to people about where the new structures are going. You can usually find a few of us sitting around with tea while we wait for the trucks to arrive. The dust from the roads gets on everything, but that is just how it is when you work in this part of the country. We don’t have big signs or anything. If you come looking for us, just ask for the Simplex folks at the post office area. The hills around here are nice to look at when the sun goes down after a long day of measuring things. We spend most of our time out in the sun anyway. It is hard work, especially when the weather turns dry. We just focus on getting the foundations set and making sure the supplies are where they need to be. It is not glamorous, but the work stays steady for the guys here. Everyone just wants to finish their shift and head home to their families after the sun sets.
