You’ll find us at No. 33 in Old Tharagupet. If you know Bangalore, you know this area is incredibly crowded with shops and wholesalers. The streets are so narrow that sometimes two people can barely pass each other, let alone a cart. Our shop is an old building, the kind with thick walls and high wooden rafters. We’ve been here for years, and the floor is worn smooth from all the feet walking over it. We deal with marketing and distribution of various goods, so there’s always a lot of ledgers and notebooks lying around. We don't use much fancy software; a lot of it is still written down by hand. The front of the shop is usually blocked by bags or boxes waiting to be moved. It’s a noisy, dusty environment, but there is a rhythm to it that we like. We know all the carriers and the guys who pull the handcarts. My father and I sit near the entrance, greeting people and sorting out the day’s tallies. We drink coffee from the stall around the corner at least three times a day. It’s not a corporate office with glass walls; it’s a traditional trade spot. We deal with people face-to-face, bargaining and talking about the market. It’s a busy life, and there’s never a quiet moment until we finally close the heavy doors in the evening and the street noise finally starts to fade away for the night.
