Sha Mangalchand Kiran Raj & Co is tucked away in Devatha Market in Chickpet. We are at 104 on the first floor. Chickpet is probably one of the most crowded places you will ever visit. It is like a maze of narrow lanes and tall buildings filled with shops. Devatha Market is a well-known spot, so people usually find us eventually. Being on the first floor means we are a bit away from the chaos of the ground floor street level, but you can still hear everything. We spend most of our day surrounded by rolls of fabric and bags of stock. There isn't much room to move around when we have a lot of deliveries arriving at once. The market is always buzzing with energy. You see porters carrying huge loads on their heads and people bargaining at every corner. Our shop is simple. We have a few stools for people to sit on and some old wooden counters. We don't use fancy computers for everything; a lot of it is still done by hand in big notebooks. It gets quite hot in the afternoons, especially when the market is full of people. We usually drink a lot of tea to keep going. It’s a tough place to work sometimes because of the congestion, but it’s where all the business happens. We’ve just gotten used to the noise and the constant movement over the years.
