Sewmech

Our shop is called Sewmech and you can find us at 12 B T M 1st Stage in Erandwane Gaothan. It’s not a big fancy store with glass windows. It’s more of a workshop where we keep a lot of sewing machines and a whole mess of spare parts. If you come inside, you will see shelves piled high with bobbins, needles, and motors. It’s a bit dusty because of all the fabric lint that comes off the machines people bring in for repair. We have been in this part of Pune for a while. Most of the folks who come to us are local tailors from the neighborhood or women who sew at home. We spend a lot of time cleaning out old oil and fixing jammed gears. It is greasy work and our hands are usually stained by the end of the day. We don't have a website or do any big advertising. Word just gets around the Gaothan that we can fix things. Sometimes a machine is too old to find parts for, so we have to get creative or find something from a scrap machine in the back. We have an old wooden desk where we write down the bills. It is a simple life here. We open up early and stay until the last repair is done. We just like seeing an old machine start humming again after it’s been sitting broken for months.
