Mahalakshmi Home Appliances is over in F-Block of Sahakar Nagar, at No. 546/3. It’s a nice enough part of town, and we’ve been here for a while now. The shop is full of boxes—stoves, grinders, and all sorts of things people need for their kitchens. Sometimes it’s hard to walk through the aisles because we have so much stuff packed in. We spend our mornings cleaning the dust off the displays and checking if any new stock came in overnight. People from the neighborhood stop in quite a bit, sometimes just to ask how to fix a burner or why their mixer is making a weird noise. We try to help them out without making it complicated. It’s not a fancy mall store. We have a small counter where we write out the bills by hand, and we keep a calendar on the wall to remember when deliveries are due. The fan stays on all day but it still gets warm in the back where we store the bigger boxes. When the sun starts to set, the street outside gets busy with people going for walks. We usually have a chair out front where one of us sits when things are quiet. We aren't trying to be anything big; we just like being the place where locals come when their appliance breaks down or they need a new one. We close the shutters at nine and go home to have dinner.
