Kanta Enterprises

If you know S. P. Road, you know how crowded it gets, especially near the Cross. Our place, Kanta Enterprises, is tucked away in No. 1/3 Hmg Lane. It’s a narrow spot, and if two people stand in the doorway, nobody else can get in. We spend most of our mornings unpacking crates that arrived the night before. There’s always a layer of dust on everything because of the construction nearby, so we spend a lot of time with a rag in hand. The shelves go all the way to the ceiling, and we have to use a shaky old ladder to reach the stuff at the top. Sometimes we can’t even find what we’re looking for right away because things get shifted around during the rush. It’s noisy out there in the lane with all the carts and people shouting. We’ve been at this address for years, and the walls could use a fresh coat of paint, but there’s never a good time to stop and do it. We usually eat our lunch sitting on some of the sturdier boxes in the back. It’s not the most comfortable setup, but it works for us. Customers come in with old parts wanting a match, and we spend time looking through our drawers. It’s a bit of a mess sometimes, but we know where most things are. The fan in the corner squeaks all day long, but we’ve gotten used to it after all these years of working here.
