Our place is right in the middle of Ulsoor Market. It’s a very busy area in Halasuru, and the Someshwarpura side always has something going on. We are located at Old No 20. The market gets very crowded on the weekends, so it’s usually quite a mess outside our door with people and carts. We’ve been dealing with oil for a long time now. It’s a bit of a messy job, but someone has to do it. The shop smells a certain way, like the goods we keep in stock. It’s a small space, and we have barrels and containers stacked up everywhere. There isn’t much room to walk around once a couple of customers come in. We don’t have any fancy displays or lights. People just come in, tell us what they want, and we fill it up for them. Bangalore has changed a lot over the years, but this market feels mostly the same as it did when we started. The lanes are narrow and the buildings are old and close together. We have a few regulars who have been coming to us since they were kids. That feels good. We just keep the shop open and try to be helpful to everyone who walks in. It’s a lot of manual work, lifting heavy things and pouring oil. We don’t use much technology here, just the basics to keep track of what’s going on. It’s a simple, honest way to spend the day.
