Padma Lock Centre

Padma Lock Centre is tucked inside Bhansali Mansion on Sardar Patrappa Road. The address number is 41365, which is easy enough to find if you’re looking for the sign. We’ve been dealing with locks and keys for a long time. The shop is small and full of tiny drawers and hooks. There are keys hanging everywhere you look. It smells a bit like metal and oil in here, which is just the nature of the work. We spend a lot of time cutting keys and helping people who’ve lost theirs. It’s a steady kind of job. The road outside is always loud with horns and people walking by. We don’t have a fancy display case; most of the stock is just kept in boxes behind the counter. Sometimes we have to go out to people’s houses if they’re locked out, but mostly we’re right here at the bench. The lighting isn't the best, so we use some old desk lamps to see the fine details on the key blanks. We’re not a big chain or anything like that. It’s just a local shop where we know many of the faces that walk in. We don’t bother with much paperwork beyond the basics. If a lock is broken, we try to fix it instead of just selling a new one right away. It’s how we’ve always done things. It’s a bit cramped, especially when more than two people are in here, but we like it that way. Most people find us through neighbors or by just walking past.
