Our place is tucked away in JC Nagar, Bangalore, specifically at No.8 on the 1st Main in Krishmamma Garden. If you know Bangalore, you know the traffic can be a nightmare, so we usually start early to avoid the worst of it. Neri Machine Tools Pvt. Ltd. is basically a workshop and office combined. You can usually hear the sound of metal or machines if you’re standing nearby. It’s a bit oily and there is always a smell of grease in the air, which I guess is normal for a machine tool business. The space isn’t very big, so we have to be smart about where we put the stock. We have some old desks in the corner where we do the billing and take the orders. The staff here are mostly guys who like working with their hands. We don’t really do the whole suit-and-tie thing. Most of the time we’re in our work clothes, dealing with spare parts or talking to mechanics. It’s a bit cluttered, but we know where everything is, mostly. We get people coming in from all over the city looking for specific tools. Sometimes we sit out front for a bit to catch a breeze when it’s not too dusty. It’s a simple operation, really. No big corporate layers, just us and the machines and the daily grind of getting orders out to the customers on time. We just keep our heads down and do the work.
