Being on Hospital Road means we are right in the thick of things. We are at No 40, near the B.V.K. Iyengar Road cross, specifically behind the Maharaja Complex. This part of Bangalore is famous for being crowded. There are people, carts, and vehicles moving in every direction all day long. Our shop, Mehta Light Creations, is right in the middle of all that noise. It is an older building with a lot of character, but nothing about it is modern or sleek. We have our stock piled up wherever it fits because space is at a premium in this market. Every morning, we roll up the shutters and join the rest of the street. It’s a dusty and loud environment, but that is just the reality of BVK Iyengar Road. You can’t really escape the chaos here. We don’t have a big staff or a fancy reception area. It is just a few of us managing the items and talking to whoever stops by. Most people who come here are looking for something very specific. We don’t bother with sales pitches. We just show them what we have on the shelves. Finding a place to park a car near us is nearly impossible, so most of our customers just walk in from the main road. It’s a very traditional way of doing things and we just keep it going day after day, year after year.
