Even though we are way up on the 21st Floor of the World Trade Centre on Dr. Rajkumar Rd., things at Abb India Ltd. feel pretty grounded once you get past the elevators. It is a big building, and the view of the city is something else, but inside, we are just a bunch of people working on engineering and power stuff. The World Trade Centre is a busy place, and there is always a crowd in the lobby. Up here, it’s a bit quieter, but there is still plenty of movement. We spend our days looking at projects and talking to the teams at the factory sites. It’s a lot of coordination. You might think it’s all very polished because of the address, but our desks are covered in folders and half-empty water bottles like anywhere else. We have meetings that go long and we worry about deadlines just like the smaller shops down the street. Dr. Rajkumar Road is always packed with cars, so getting here in the morning is a bit of a struggle for most of us. Once we are in, we just get to it. We deal with a lot of technical things, but we try to talk about them in plain English so everyone understands. It’s a high-rise office, but the work is very much about the real-world stuff that keeps the lights on and the machines running elsewhere. It’s just how we do things every day.
