Shri Akshaya Bhavan

Shri Akshaya Bhavan is right on Old Police Station Road in Madiwala. If you know Madiwala, you know how busy it gets with all the buses and people passing through. Our place is always filled with the smell of sambar and fresh dosas. We open up early in the morning because the commuters need their coffee and breakfast before they head out for work. It’s a lot of clattering plates and shouting orders to the kitchen during the rush. We don’t have fancy menus or decorations on the walls. It’s just simple tables, plastic chairs, and hot food. The floor gets a bit slippery when it rains outside, so we’re always mopping up. I spend most of my time behind the counter or checking on the kitchen staff to see if the chutney is ready. We have a few regulars who have been coming here for many years. They always sit at the same corner table. Sometimes we run out of a certain dish by noon, and people get a bit disappointed, but that’s just how it goes when everything is made fresh in small batches. The noise from Old Police Station Road never really stops. We’ve grown used to the horns and the crowds of people. It’s a tough business, standing on your feet all day long, but seeing people finish their meal and look satisfied makes it worth it. We don't try to be anything we're not. We’re just a local spot for a quick, hot meal. That's the way it's always been.
