M S T Silk Traders

If you head down to New Tharagpet, you will find M S T Silk Traders at number 121 and 122 on the Kumbarapet Main Road. It is right in the middle of all the chaos of the silk market. The area is always crowded with people moving bundles of fabric and carts zig-zagging through the streets. Our shop is quite simple. We have shelves stacked high with different types of silk, and the floor is usually covered in some bit of thread or packing material. It’s not a polished showroom. We don't have air conditioning that works all the time, so we keep the fans going at full speed. My family has been doing this for a long time. We know the textures and the dyes just by looking at them under the shop lights. The mornings are for sorting the new stock that comes in, and the afternoons are usually spent talking with the regular buyers who have been coming to us for years. We drink a lot of chai and talk about the weather or how the market is doing. It’s a noisy, fast-paced life here on the main road. We don't use any fancy sales tactics. We just show the silk, and the traders know if it’s what they need. It is a very direct way of doing business. The walls are lined with old ledgers and samples from years ago. It’s just how we operate.
