M K Jayaram & Co is located at number 10 in the Surmount Byzantine building. This is part of the Trust Complex along the Sarkhej Gandhinagar Highway, though we are based in the Basavanagudi area. It is a bit of a trek to get here if you are coming from the center of the city because the highway gets so busy. Our office is quite plain. We have a few rooms filled with desks and old cupboards for all the records we have to keep. It is not the kind of place where you’ll see modern art or glass partitions. We have been here for a while and the space reflects that. There’s a certain smell of old paper and tea that always seems to linger in the air. We don't have a big staff, so it is usually just the same few faces every day. We don't have a dedicated person to answer the phones, so whoever is closest usually picks it up. Some days are slow and we spend time talking about the news, but other days we are so busy we hardly look up from our work. The highway outside is always humming with cars, which provides a bit of background noise while we work. We don't make big promises or use fancy words. We just show up in the morning, do what we are supposed to do, and lock up in the evening. It’s just a normal workplace.
