Krishnendra Nursery

Our nursery is located at 9 - 159 Lalbagh Siddapur, which is right in the 1st Block of Jayanagar. It’s a very green space, as you might expect, but the job involves a lot of hard work. We spend most of our mornings watering the plants and moving heavy pots around to make sure everything gets enough sun. The ground stays a bit muddy, especially during the monsoon, so we all wear old boots. It is not one of those manicured gardens you see in magazines; it’s a working nursery where things are constantly growing and being moved. We have a lot of different types of plants tucked away in various corners. Sometimes it feels like a bit of a maze back there. People from the neighborhood often stop by just to look around or ask a question about their own gardens at home. We don’t have a fancy sales team or anything like that. It is mostly just us with dirt under our fingernails, trying to keep the saplings healthy. The air here feels a bit cooler than the rest of the street because of all the leaves. Since we’ve been in this spot for a long time, we’ve seen the trees out front grow quite tall. It’s a quiet life for the most part, punctuated by the sounds of birds and the occasional delivery truck bringing in fresh soil. There's always some weeding that needs doing, so we rarely sit down for long.
