Out on Tumkur Road, right around the 8th or 9th mile marker, is where you will find us. If you’ve driven that way, you know it’s a busy industrial stretch full of trucks and dust. Kennametal India has been part of this landscape for quite some time. We make tools and parts that other factories use. Because of the machinery, it’s loud inside, but that’s just the sound of work getting done. Usually, the floor is covered in metal shavings and cooling oil. We aren't a showroom; it's a place where things are manufactured properly. Our workers wear their uniforms and spend their shifts making sure the specs are right. It’s a long road out here, and while the commute can be a bit much during rush hour, we’ve got a good rhythm going. The whole corporate image thing isn't something we do very well. Whether the lathe is running right or if the shipment is ready for the morning truck is what we care about. For people who understand how things are built, it is practical work. We have a canteen where we grab tea and talk about the day’s production. It’s a straightforward environment. We show up, do the shifts, and keep the machines maintained so they don’t break down when a big order needs to be filled. Sometimes the deadlines get tight and it gets stressful, but we manage to get through the pile. Having been at this spot for years, the crew knows the drills by heart.
