Kembhavi Architecture Foundation

If you find yourself on Mahatma Gandhi Road in Jayanagar, you might pass by number 1872. That is where Kembhavi Architecture Foundation is based. It’s not exactly a foundation in the way some people think; we are just a group of people who care about how buildings are put together. We spend our days at drafting tables or staring at screens. Architecture is a lot more than just drawing pretty pictures. It involves a lot of math and thinking about how people actually move through a room. We try to keep things simple. Jayanagar is a nice place to work because it has a lot of character. We take walks sometimes to look at the older houses around here for ideas. Our office is usually full of models made of cardboard or foam. They get a bit dusty after a while but they help us see things in 3D. We don't go for the really loud, modern stuff that doesn't fit in. We prefer things that look like they belong. Working on Mahatma Gandhi Road keeps us busy. There’s always someone stopping by with a question about a renovation or a new build. We don't have a fancy receptionist. Usually, one of us just looks up from a drawing to say hello. It's a bit messy sometimes, with pencils and coffee mugs everywhere, but it's where we get things done.
