Just Bake

We’ve been here at Vijaya Nagar 905 A for a good while now. Most mornings start around five when the first delivery of milk comes in and we have to get the ovens going before the sun is even up. It gets pretty warm in the back, especially when several batches of bread are rising at once. Just Bake isn't a huge place, but we make do with the space we have. There’s usually a bit of flour on the floor by noon, no matter how much we sweep. Our counters are often crowded with boxes and trays waiting to go out. We see a lot of the same faces every day, people stopping by on their way to work or picking something up for their kids after school. Sometimes the doorbell rings non-stop and other times it’s quiet enough to hear the fridge humming in the corner. We don’t have fancy uniforms or anything, just some aprons that have seen better days. The shelves are filled with whatever we finished baking most recently. It’s a lot of physical work, lifting heavy bags of sugar and standing on our feet for hours, but it’s what we do. We try to keep things organized at 905 A, though during the holiday rush, that usually goes out the window. It’s just us here, making sure things are baked and ready when the doors open. We don’t spend much time worrying about decor.
