If you look for us at 706 in the Devatha Plaza building, you’ll find J R Rao & Co right in the middle of the Residency Road rush. Bangalore has changed a lot, but this building has that older feel to it that we’ve grown to like. It’s a busy spot, and finding a place to park is usually a nightmare, but we’ve been here long enough that we don’t think much about it anymore. Inside our office, it’s mostly just desks, piles of papers, and the sound of people talking on phones. We don’t have a sleek lobby or a coffee bar. We just have chairs and folders. Most of our day is spent looking through numbers or talking to people who walk in with their questions. It’s the kind of place where things move at a steady pace. We aren't trying to be the biggest firm in the city; we just want to do the work correctly and keep our clients from having any trouble. The view from the window is mostly just the tops of other buildings and the constant stream of traffic down below. Sometimes it gets a bit noisy when there’s a protest or a festival on Residency Road, but we just close the windows and carry on. It’s a small team here, so we all know each other’s families and what everyone had for lunch. We like it that way.
