If you look for J R Jain & Co, you will find us at 9 Chickpet, right opposite the Bombay Anand Bhavan. Chickpet is a maze of narrow lanes and it is always packed with people and carts moving goods. Our office is right in the middle of all that chaos. It is a small place, probably smaller than you would expect, and it is packed with ledgers and stacks of paper. We have been here for years, watching the shops around us change while we stay mostly the same. The smell of food from the nearby restaurants often wafts in through the door. It is a busy atmosphere and we are usually tucked away behind our desks working through the accounts and business matters. There is no air conditioning, just the ceiling fans moving the warm air around. We know most of the other shopkeepers on this block and we usually exchange a few words while getting tea in the morning. The phone rings a lot and people are always sticking their heads in to ask questions. We don't have a fancy website or a marketing team. We just open the shutters in the morning and close them in the evening once the work is finished. It is the kind of place where you have to watch your step on the stairs because they are old and narrow. We just keep doing what we do, day after day, in this crowded corner of the city.
